Are You the Adult You Want to Be?
We're all doing the best we can.
But maybe if we knew differently we would do differently, (as Oprah says).
I travel around my world today; I get on the internet in forums and on the question of religion and spirituality there seem to be many people who are looking for answers from some Supreme Expert who will do all the work for them and simply allow them to follow like sheep.
I suspect these people feel they need this - because they don't feel comfortable within themselves. They don't feel good about their ability, as adults, to make this very important decision.
... In fact, there seems to be an underlying worry that they are unsure of any decision they make.

I can tell you about a book I read in my early twenties that helped me find who I wanted to be as an adult. It's called Born to Win.

This book helped me to understand every thought I was having and see everything that was coming out of my mouth. It helped me to see which of these things were "working" for me and which were not. It showed me how I could make the decisions about what I was going to do about it. And it gave me the tools I needed to do something about it. |

It was a process that took, at least two years of my life and took daily work. What did I get at the end of it? I got access to my own Adult, a part of me that was always in me but I just wasn't utilizing. And I learned to accept and work with the other parts of me in a way that did not allow them to 'rule' me anymore. I changed some of them completely, and allowed that others fit in with who I wanted to be.

I suggest that if it feels attractive to you to "Be your own Adult" that you read this book and do the work. You could do this work with a buddy and help each other by talking it out. But you really need to make a promise to trust each other. |
